The Big Dipper coaster at Belmont Park

San Diego version of Coney Island

Slotted between the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay, Mission Beach is alive with activity. This neighborhood spans two miles along Mission Blvd. between the entrance of Mission Bay and Pacific Beach Drive. Belmont Park is the magnet for fun. On a typical sunny weekend you'll find surfers, college students, tourists, joggers, beachcombers and bikers looking for fun. A boardwalk runs along the beaches on both the ocean and bay sides of the community.

Mission Beach crowds at the beach
The beach in front of Belmont Park gets packed on sunny summer days. The biggest challenge is finding a parking spot.

Mission Beach is mostly residential, with an eclectic mix of apartments, condos and single family homes on small lots. Being prime beach real estate, homes tend to be expensive. In May, 2015 the median price for a single family home in Pacific/Mission Beach area was $1.2M according to DataQuick. The median price for condominiums was $571,500.

Mission Beach lifeguard tower
Beaches become much less crowded in the off season.

Mission Beach is divided into "North Mission" and "South Mission." North Mission is the area from the Giant Dipper roller coaster to Pacific Beach Drive. South Mission is south of the roller coaster to Mission Bay Harbor Channel. Finding street parking throughout Mission Beach is difficult at best. There are public lots around Belmont Park and South Mission Beach Park.

Bars along Mission Blvd.
The Beachcomber and The Pennant are popular watering holes.

For visitors and residents alike, Mission Beach has everything you need for fun and life's necessities. It's close to major attractions including Sea World, Balboa Park, the downtown Gaslamp district and the San Diego Zoo. With the combination of the boardwalk, tanned bodies, raucous nightlife and near-perfect weather, Mission Beach is the definition of "life's a beach."
